The Cybis studio made birds in all sizes from the 4 1/2" Baby Owl to the 20" tall Great Horned Owl "KooKoosKoos". Several birds were produced in fine china during the 1950's in glazed surfaces, but the vast majority of birds were produced in porcelain in the Parian color finish. Most were available only in color, but many early porcelain sculptures were also available in white. The white option, offered on select sculptures, was retired by the mid 1960's. Many birds were attached to wood bases while a few like the Great White Heron and Little Blue Heron were sold with wood bases, but not attached to them. Over time those bases were lost. Obtaining a sculpture along with its original wood base is rare and certainly desirable over a copy without its base.
Sculptures often combined both flowers and birds in one piece. For those who prefer floral themes only, the studio released numerous flower designs over its 40 plus year history. Many of these sculptures, like the birds, were also sold in all white versions. Unattached bases were also introduced with many floral sculptures that were later discontinued mid-cycle in the 1970's. It is difficult to know if a sculpture had a base or not, as older items would have had one while newer ones did not.
